Support
The project aligns with the upcoming National Eisteddfod 2026, which will return to the area, and the 850th anniversary of the first Eisteddfod held at Cardigan Castle in 1176. Hwb Aberteifi will be a key addition to Cardigan’s cultural offerings, enriching the town’s appeal for both locals and visitors.
Supported by Local Champions
The project is backed by Cardigan Aberteifi Society (CAS) and 4CG Cymru Ltd, organisations with a proven track record of community-led regeneration. 4CG Cymru Ltd has previously transformed the Old Police Station and Courthouse in Cardigan, as well as the Pwllhai site, which includes two community car parks, six flats, shops, and stores. Their expertise and commitment to community development make them invaluable partners in this initiative.
The project is also supported by PLANED the community assets development charity based in Narberth, that has supported many communities in buying, pubs, shops, chapels and land for community use.
A Collaborative Effort for Cardigan’s Future
The project is a collaborative effort between local volunteers, Cardigan Aberteifi Society (CAS), 4CG Cymru Ltd and PLANED, all of whom are committed to preserving Cardigan’s history while creating a vibrant future. The group has already visited the chapel site and is excited about the potential it holds, despite the significant work required to restore the Victorian building.
A spokesperson for the project – Richard Jones said: “Hwb Aberteifi is more than just a building – it’s a vision for a stronger, more connected community. By transforming the old Tabernacl Chapel, we can create a space that brings people together, celebrates our heritage, and supports local creativity and innovation. We’re calling on everyone who cares about Cardigan to join us in making this dream a reality.”
